Alan Longshore
Objective
Seeking a programmer/analyst position where my programming experience,
management experience, and education can be effectively utilized. I would
like to do more internet applications, but I am flexible on the nature of the work.
I have eight years of experience working in on-line and batch VMS and UNISYS
processing environments. The last four years have involved a combination of C,
ProC, Unix, SQL, PL/SQL and Oracle Forms. The last year has concentrated on
Web Applications such as HTML combined with Java, Oracle, Jdeveloper and Perl.
Employment
TEAM LEADER/ANALYST
Years Employed (5/1998-Present)
Bureau of the Census/Geography Division Upper Marlboro, MD.
I currently supervise a team of computer programmers involved in moving our current database,
called GEOCAT and which was built before RDB concepts came into existence, into an Oracle Database.
I am also responsible for programming a survey called the Boundary and Annexation
Survey. This survey is required as part of the preparation for the 2000 Census.
In order to meet our deadlines, we need to convert the data into an Oracle Database
and reprogram all of the applications necessary before conducting the 2000 Census.
Needless to say, this is a pretty overwhelming task.
PROGRAMMER/ANALYST Years Employed (4/1995-5/1998)
Bureau of the Census/Geography Division Upper Marlboro, MD.
This job required creating, debugging and executing C, ProC, Unix, SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle applications to access, update, and disseminate information stored in the Census Bureau's TIGER and GEOCAT databases. These databases are digital cartagraphic databases that use lists and pointers to represent geographical information about the entire U.S.
Good computing, debugging, and communication skills are essential
to this job. The applications vary greatly depending upon the nature of the
project or special request. Most of my experience was developing, debugging ,
executing C programs on a VAX/ALPHA environment. This job required experience
with lots of different platforms, such as, ProC mixed with SQL, PL/SQL, and Unix
along with Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports applications.
PROGRAMMER/STATISTICIAN

Bureau of the Census/Geography Division Upper Marlboro, MD.
Responsibilities included creating, debugging, updating, executing, and
documenting Fortran and SAS programs on VAX/UNISYS. These programs generally tally
survey data and must compute weights, medians, means, variances, and production
tables according to precise mathematical specifications. Various software packages
such as WordPerfect, Easy Flow, and ABC Flowcharter were used to produce
documentation according to strict Census Bureau guidelines.
